Nana's Sugar Cookies

This recipe makes 6 dozen cookies.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups shortening
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Cream shortening; then add sugar, beating till fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well. Combine dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture, mixing well. Divide dough in half; wrap in Glad wrap and chill at least one hour. ( I usually mix it up one day and roll it out the next.

Roll dough ( about half of a half ) to 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut dough with cookie cutters. Place on lightly greased cookie sheets; sprinkle with colored sugar and bake at 350 degrees for about 12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool cookies on a wire rack. Repeat with remaining dough.
